Businesses that set up shop in the East River Business Park will now pay the lowest industrial commercial tax rate in Pictou County.
The Muncipality of Pictou County council approved a motion during its December meeting to enter into an agreement with the Town of New Glasgow to change the mutual municipal boundary between the two municipal units so three parcels of land owned by the New Scotland Business Park are within one municipal boundary.
“Through this annexation process, all lands will be taxed at the same rate. Most importantly for investors is the East River Business Park will have the lowest tax rate in the region for serviced industrial/commercial land,” said Municipality of Pictou County Coun. Andy Thompson, chair of New Scotland Business Inc.
New Scotland Business Development Incorporated is made up of representatives from the Town of New Glasgow and the Municipality of Pictou County, which co-own the 17-acre property located along the East River Road in New Glasgow.
Previously, three parcels of land were in the Town of New Glasgow while the remaining lots were in the Municipality of Pictou County, which has different tax rates.
