Businesses looking to extend their tourism season can apply for a 50 percent wage subsidy through Destination Eastern and Northumberland Shore, (DEANS).

The tourism association serving Pictou and Antigonish counties, and eastern shore, has teamed up with other provincial organizations, the provincial and federal governments to offer a program that is designed to extend operating hours and enhance employee training.

The Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia is managing the wage subsidy. Business owners interested in applying can do so through DEANS.

“Expanding the season beyond the traditional period of business is key to meeting visitor expectations and contributing to the long-term sustainability of the tourism economy,” said DEANS in a press release.

The release also noted that Nova Scotia’s short tourist reason is “a key challenge” facing an industry which wants to reach its target of $4 billion by 2024.

Employees looking to upgrade or refresh their training can also access a battery of recourses and supports being offered through the program which ends in Mar., 2020.
