SYDNEY, N.S. — The majority owner of the Cape Breton Eagles will officially be the new CEO of a Canadian cannabis company.
Irwin Simon, who purchased the majority ownership of the Eagles in November 2018, was formally named the CEO of Aphria Inc., on Tuesday. Aphria Inc., is one of the largest cannabis companies in the world.
Prior to the announcement, Simon, a Glace Bay native, was the company’s interim CEO for the past year. The company reported second-quarter loss in 2019.
Along with owning the Eagles, Simon is also part of the ownership for the St. John’s Edge professional basketball team in Newfoundland.
