STELLARTON - Sobeys announced an organizational realignment this week that will see two separate business units formed.

The Multi-Format Operations business unit includes Sobeys, Thrifty Foods, Sobeys urban Fresh, Foodland, IGA stores in Western Canada, FreshCo, Needs, Fast Fuel and Sobeys liquor operations. It will be led by Jason Potter, the former president of operations for Sobeys Atlantic.

IGA Operations will now consist of IGA and IGA extra, Les Marchés Tradition, Marché Bonichoix and Rachelle-Béry in Quebec. It will be led by Marc Poulin.

Paul Jewer, currently the senior vice-president of finance and treasury, has been appointed chief financial officer for Sobeys. In his new role, Jewer will assume leadership for all financial functions including reporting, planning, treasury, tax and Sobeys' investor relations.

"We have made these changes as a confident, proactive accelerant of our strategy to optimize our performance in an increasingly competitive environment," said Bill McEwan, president and CEO of Sobeys.

"The infrastructure investments that we have made, the leadership we have in place and the performance momentum we have generated allow us to realign for efficency and advance from a position of strength."
