Local Y’s Men, Y’s Menettes attend convention

A number of Pictou County Y’s Men and Y’s Menettes recently attended the Canadian-Caribbean Area convention, hosted by District Jamaica.

Joan Wilson, president of the Canadian Area Y’s Men, conducted the meetings. Several workshops were held addressing items such as membership and communication.

A large number of Jamaican youth congregated under the leadership of Area Youth Representative Seham Rabaa of the Ottawa International Y Service Club.

Y’s Menettes gathered around the leadership of Canadian Area Director Charlotte Yorston, and International Director Carole Dunbar, both of New Glasgow.

Marg Muise, international director of Sister Clubs, explained the benefits of corresponding with another Y’s Menette club, and challenged the local group to consider the program.

The convention focused on maintaining and improving the Canadian and Caribbean partnership in Y’s Men, Y’s Menettes and Y’s Youth.

Following the formal program of the convention, the Canadian delegation visited the Y’s Menettes’ community resource centre in Savanna la Mar, which has been receiving financial support from the Maritime clubs. Those visiting were well impressed with the facility, and the programs being offered there.

Every one thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Jamaica.
