Stellarton firefighters receive service awards

The Stellarton Fire Department held its annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 2. 

Following the introduction of the head table guests, Father Barrett Clair-Johnson gave the blessing of the meal. Speeches were made by Chief Dwight Campbell and His Worship Mayor Danny MacGillivray. Presentation of Awards followed with Deputy Chief Mike O'Sullivan reading off the names of the Service Award winners. 

Members receiving five-year pins were firefighters Steve Cassidy and Patrick Ward; 10-year service pins to firefighters Mike Dean and James “Boobie” MacKenzie and 45-year service pin to firefighter Brian “Tiny” Campbell. Ladies auxiliary president Susan Campbell gave a speech and presented a cheque to treasurer Paul Sutherland. He thanked the ladies auxiliary on behalf of the department. 

Deputy Chief O'Sullivan thanked the Thorburn Ladies Auxiliary for catering and presented them with a token of appreciation to president Joan Riley. Firefighter/councillor Simon Lawand acted as master of ceremonies for the evening and introduced guest speaker Chaplain Rev. Charles MacPherson who delighted the crowd with his humour. A small token of appreciation was presented. Those in attendance were invited to the Oak Room Lounge for a social. Chief Campbell gave thanks and Rev. MacPherson gave the closing prayer.
