Two local musicians heading to national festival


Two local musicians are heading to National Music Festival in Edmonton in August after winning in their classes during the Provincial Music Festival last weekend. Marianne Greene came out on top in the senior brass class, while Skylar Cameron placed first in the senior voice category.

Two other local solo musicians fared well in the festival, placing first in the junior categories – Nicholas Higgs for voice and Luke Henderson for brass.

Three local choirs earned awards at the festival; The North Nova Education Centre Jazz Choir, with Janice Alcorn directing, received the Paul J. Bourret Award while the NNEC Octet, also with Janice Alcorn directing, received the Richard W. Cooke Award.

The New Glasgow Academy Choir, with Vivi Chediac directing, received the David Ochterlony Award.
