World Breastfeeding Week celebrated in Pictou County

Christopher Dickson and his mother Rachelle Bate receive special gifts in honour of World Breastfeeding Week as Aberdeen Hospital registered nurse Cathy Daye presents the new mother and baby with a quilt, breastfeeding bra coupon from Leslie’s Finery and other handmade goods.

World Breastfeeding Week has been celebrated since 1992 and is the biggest mobilization platform for breastfeeding. Ninety-two percent of the mothers delivering their babies at the Aberdeen Hospital plan to breastfeed.

Although mothers can breastfeed anywhere at any time, staff or visitors who choose to breastfeed in private are able to access a breastfeeding room on the maternity floor or on the third floor next to the obstetrician’s waiting rooms. The breastfeeding rooms have a breast pump for moms to use with a comfortable chair and change area for the baby.
