A change in the seasons, brings a change in library programming – as welcome the beginning of school again, our regular reoccurring library programs start up again this week too. We have something for everyone, from the very young, to the young-at-heart.
Many of our programs are drop-in as you wish although several do require registration (due to limited space, or materials provided) – and best of all, all our library programs are free! All you need is a library card, and those are free too. Just perfect, for stretching the household budgets that much further. Two more great reasons to sign-up for your free library card, also returning this fall - the “Arts are for Everyone pass” program with the deCoste Performing Arts Centre (with the list of new events to be released soon), and our “Fun Fit Pass” program with Active Pictou County, the YMCA of Pictou County and the Pictou Fisheries Training Pool.
New this year, we are offering some drop-in Family Storytimes for the whole family on Thursdays at the Westville library (at 1:15 p.m.) and the Stellarton library (at 1 p.m.). Throughout the week, we have great drop-in after school programs at the library! At New Glasgow library, it’s Tuesdays at 3 p.m. Stellarton and Westville libraries both have drop-in afterschool programs on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Thursdays at 3 p.m., the Westville library offers ‘TweenScene, while the Pictou Library has a new ‘upcycling’ crafting program. And at the River John library - it is every day from Tuesday to Friday at 3 p.m. For adults, the Stellarton library is also offering a new monthly Games Night (for ages 18+), on the third Tuesday evening of the month at 6:30 p.m.
Wondering about Online Banking, and concerned about all you need to know when going on the Internet? Join us for Matt’s monthly “Tea, Talk and Tech” presentation, on Friday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Glasgow library.
Looking for a new hobby? The Pictou library is offering a Beginners Embroidery workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 1:30 p.m., and a “Paint with Sharon” workshop on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1:30 p.m. Space is limited for both programs, and registration is required. Considering your legacy? The Access to Justice & Law Reform Institute of Nova Scotia is hosting a presentation about wills on Thursday Sept. 26 from 6:30 p.m. at the Pictou Library. Learn why you should have a will, and what may happen to your money and property without one. Do you think the law should be changed, and if so – how? All are welcome to drop by. The Law Reform Institute often consults with Nova Scotians on how they would like to see the law changed.
And two more great reasons to visit the library are coming up in October. For fans of Oak Island, we have “Oak Island Mystery, Solved: The Final Chapter” presentation with co-author Gordon Fader at the Antigonish Town & County Library on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Then later in the month, one our Book Club fan favorites - Lesley Crewe will share with us her new book “Are you kidding me?!” on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m. at the New Glasgow library.
