Glen Haven Manor hosts successful health and wellness fair for staff

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – The annual Glen Haven Manor Staff Health & Wellness Fair, led by Glen Haven’s director of health, wellness & nutrition Pauline Marks, took place recently at Glen Haven with a wide range of booth presentations and vendors. 
“An impressive scope of presentations came from both internal resources as well as the community at large,” said Marks. “We are pleased to offer our staff information about the many resources available to support them in achieving well-being and good health. We are proud of our own in-house resources as well as the broad selection of expertise and services offered throughout Pictou County and beyond. It is an event we all look forward to and there is something for everyone.”
New this year was a presentation on breast cancer awareness organized by Miranda MacKenzie, Glen Haven’s manager of safety and manager of Crystal Waters & Silver Creek resident care areas. MacKenzie, who has had breast cancer herself, explains she wanted to share information on mammograms, self-examinations and symptoms with her colleagues to increase awareness for preventative measures. 
“If one person walked away and gets a mammogram, it was more than worth it,” MacKenzie said.
Christine MacFarlane, RN, manager of River Glen and Whispering Tide resident care areas, presented a fun interactive display on infection control that used a hopscotch to help participants navigate the information. Nina Clarke, RN, presented the opportunity for staff to have both blood pressure and blood sugar testing while Community Hearing offered a chance to see inside the ear drum.
