Writing doesn’t always need to be a solitary endeavour. A Pictou County writing group is hosting drop-in Write In sessions at several library locations around the county. Bring your laptop or notebook and write in the company of fellow writers, at the Stellarton Library on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Westville Library on Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and wrap-up with an Open Mic Night at the New Glasgow Library on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Have a writing project on the go, and looking to take your writing to the next level? Local author, editor, and publisher, Jennifer Hatt is returning to the library on Thursday mornings starting Nov. 7. Wondering about the wild world of publishing? Author and playwright, Emil Sher will be offering a hands-on writing workshop, Before You Cross the Finish Line, on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the New Glasgow Library at 7 p.m. Emil will share his insights about writing for children and audiences of all ages, about the journey before a book is published or a play is staged: the drafts, the detours, and the roads taken. Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction. Discovering more great stories in our own backyard, Laurie Glenn Norris will read from her new book, “Found Drowned” at the Westville Library on Friday, Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m.. Based on a true unsolved crime from 1877, Norris’s debut novel tells the story of two small towns linked by the disappearance of a teenage girl.
Have a question about an old family artifact and wondering where to start? Join us at the New Glasgow Library on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. as Lisa Snider from MemoryNS demonstrates how to search, locate, and discover archival content across Nova Scotia.
Discover our own local heroes! There will be a through a presentation of the documentary “Larry Sutherland, the One Eyed Gunner” at the Westville Library on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. All are invited to watch Larry's interview with The Memory Project about his service during the Second World War as Canada's top gunner ace. Gary Chisholm, the local author of "The One Eyed Gunner" will also be present.
On the lighter side, Laughter Yoga with Shelley Ballantyne returns to the New Glasgow library on Tuesdays starting this week at the community room from 12:10 p.m. until 12:50 p.m.
