NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — A new recognition platform for staff, called the Wall of Gratitude, has been established by Glen Haven Manor.
“This 'wall' is an opportunity to highlight and show our gratitude for the great work of our league of extraordinary care superheroes,” explains CEO Lisa M. Smith. “Each month we will feature four staff, across departments, who are shining examples of our commitment to provide outstanding care and well being for our residents each and every day with a commitment in excellence in all that we do.
The inaugural candidates for the Wall of Gratitude are Heather Marr, CCA; Stephanie Henderson, LPN; Marnie MacDonald, LPN and Barry Pothier, a service support in Nutritional Services.
“The term Wall of Gratitude was chosen because a grateful mindset is an important factor towards thriving and flourishing as individuals and as an organization," Smith says. "Gratitude inspires positive actions and attitudes and is an acknowledgement of our blessings and gifts."
The wall was launched to coincide with Continuing Care Month.
She said the role of the manor's staff is critical to growing Glen Haven Manor as Nova Scotia’s premier resident and family-centred care provider, as well as its role as an innovative community difference maker toward building vitality in continuing care
The following are profiles on the four staff members Smith calls exemplary representatives of the Glen Haven front-line team.
Heather Marr has been a part of the Glen Haven squad for 22 years. Heather’s “superhero powers” include her extraordinary ability to give her all each and every day without exception, her unwavering devotion to residents and the team, her great sense of humour, motivating attitude, dependability and her inspiring connection to residents.
Stephanie Henderson joined the Glen Haven team three years ago, first as a CCA who later went on to achieve her LPN. Stephanie’s “superhero powers” include her strong leadership in quality care, her strength as a motivating role model and team player, her calmness under pressure, and her warm and caring allegiance to residents and colleagues.
Marnie MacDonald joined the Glen Have's league of extraordinary care superheroes three years ago and has quickly become a mentor and leader by example. Marnie’s “superhero powers” include her compassion, her stellar commitment to resident safety, her ability to put quality, safety and dignity at the forefront as well as her thirst for knowledge and leading innovations in continuing care.
Barry Pothier has been a member of the Glen Haven team for more than 30 years. Barry’s “superhero powers” are his ability to brighten the days of residents through his pleasant, friendly manner, and his firm commitment to person-centred care as well as his proven record of always going above and beyond the call of duty.
The Glen Haven Wall of Gratitude displays are located in the corridor near the main entrance close to the Crystal Waters and Silver Creek Resident Care Areas and in the corridor near the entrance at the bottom level, just outside the Blue Nose Dock. These locations were selected so that residents, residents’ families, volunteers and staff will all have an opportunity to read about the inspiring team members.
