After a month of local musicians gracing the stage at Green Hill Alma United Church, Monday Music in Alma is now ready to welcome some visiting musicians to the stage in September.
Monday, Sept. 3, Thomas McCallum returns to the Monday Music audience guitar in hand. McCallum grew up in Six Mile Brook and is currently living and working in Toronto. He has been back home long enough to put together a folk festival in Six Mile Brook, as well as picking up some gigs here and there around the Maritimes.
The stage in Alma will feel quite familiar to him, as he has performed many a tune and told a few stories here before.
For this concert, McCallum will be sharing the bill with singer-songwriter Campbell Woods who has also visited the Alma stage before. Woods, who is familiar with Halifax and area, hails from the Ottawa Valley and is travelling with fellow musician Tim Jackson.
The following week, on Sept. 10, Monday Music in Alma welcomes another musical guest. From the west coast, musician Natalie Ramsay performs as Daughter of the Moon. Her live performance of voice and acoustic guitar have been described as haunting, yet healing, and her songs, sweet and melancholic. Like some of the other visitors who have found their way to the stage in Alma, Daughter of the Moon made the connection through a fellow musician, Michael Averill, who spread the word about the great little performance space and the wonderful audience in Alma.
As fall approaches, Monday Music in Alma will be holding monthly concerts and there are some more locals who are in the lineup to come. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $10 or what you can afford.
