OLD BARNS, N.S. — A 16-year-old Cobequid Educational Centre student is among special guests taking part in a musical event at The Round Barn.
Diamar Richards is one of the singers for Volume 2 of Someone Like Her.
“I’m looking forward to this because I enjoy singing,” she said. “Singing, for me, is a way to express myself. I don’t worry about anything else when I sing so it calms me and makes me happy. It’s a tonic for me.”
Diamar met the members of Brigid, the trio hosting the show, through her involvement in events like this summer’s production of Guys and Dolls.
She’s chosen Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder songs to perform at the show.
“Our two guests are different ages and they’re bringing completely different songs to the show,” said Beth Terry who, along with Emma Smit-Geraghty and Sarah Glinz make up Brigid. “This year’s show will have the same type of energy as our last one, but it will be different in other ways. The message of coming together and sharing is the same.
“We’ll have some original pieces and lots and lots of harmony. There will be a mix of music that should reach everybody.”
She said they chose The Round Barn as their location this year because they wanted something different.
“It’s beautiful and when you’re in there it feels magical.”
The second special musical guest taking part is Tanya Dondale, a local businesswoman.
Tickets are $23 for adults, $18 for students, and can be purchased at MacQuarries Pharmacy's Esplanade location.
