New Glasgow concert will honour Viola Desmond

A portrait of Viola Desmond was painted for Government House when she received her posthumous pardon from Nova Scotia Lt. Governor Mayann Francis in April 2010. The painting was done by Pictou County artist David MacIntosh and continues to hang in Government House.

A concert honouring Viola Desmond will be held at the Glasgow Square on Saturday Sept. 15.

The African Nova Scotian Music Association in partnership with the Town of New Glasgow will host the second annual Viola Desmond Heritage Concert.

The event will be held at the Glasgow Square Theatre, New Glasgow at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

“We couldn’t be happier that this has become an annual event in New Glasgow,” says Mayor Nancy Dicks. “This celebration of music is an incredible opportunity to continue to recognize the legacy that Viola was instrumental in creating in our town, province and country”

The show will be featuring: Keonte Beals, Jody Upshaw, Owen O’Sound Lee, Juanita Peters, Chudi Harris and the ANSMA Praise Team. Charla Williams will be MC for the event.
