NEW GLASGOW, N.S. - Organizers of this year’s New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee are ready for a great weekend.

Months of work will come to fruition for volunteers who have dedicated long hours to ensuring the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee runs smoothly for fans and musicians.

“It’s bound to be a great weekend as it always is,” Jubilee chair Michelle MacLean said.

The event is planned by a 12-member board of directors but throughout the weekend there will be between 200 to 300 volunteers helping out with the event.

“The volunteers are the backbone of the event,” MacLean said. “The Jubilee would not be able to happen without them.”

This year’s mainstage lineup includes some familiar favourites, including Jimmy Rankin and Alert the Medic, as well as some artists that are new to the Glasgow Square stage, including Matthew Good, July Talk and Reuben and the Dark.

MacLean is confident the variety of music will appeal to any music lover.

In addition to mainstage performances, there will be several other events happening throughout the weekend. On Saturday, a particularly special event will be the Carleton Munro Songwriter’s Circle, which was renamed this year in honour of Munro, who passed away after a battle with cancer. He had been instrumental in the success of the Jubilee for many years. The event is free and will be held at Trinity United Church at 151 Temperance St., in New Glasgow. Musicians taking part include Steven Auld, Karol Brown, Ryan MacDonald and Carmen Townsend

Also on Saturday at Wranglers Bar, there will be a Blues Matinee from 3 to 5 p.m., featuring the Rabbit Town Blues Band.

On Sunday, there will be the Children’s Jubilee from 1 to 2 p.m. at Carmichael Park on Terrace Street in New Glasgow, featuring Rainbow Express.

The Youth Stage will be held in Carmichael Park from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, featuring Karol Brown and Hangman.
