Naturopathic doctor Lisa McNiven is hoping a weekend away will help instill a sense of self-worth in women who take part.
McNiven along with Claudette Landry a healing touch practitioner and Jeanette Gormley a registered reflexology therapist are planning to host a Women’s Wellness Retreat called “I Am Worth It” at Pictou Lodge from May 17 to May 19.
The whole weekend is designed for women to take some time out and connect with friends and become mindful of what it means to take care of themselves.
“Not enough women do that,” McNiven said.
In the past organizers have held day-long retreats, but this is the first weekend one. McNiven hopes that people will take advantage of it.
“Women, all they do is take care of everybody else. We need to give them permission and let them know it’s OK.”
The weekend will include mini sessions as well as some free time and various activities including walking on the beach, a bonfire, morning yoga and drumming.
“We’re offering a lot of mini treatments,” McNiven said. “They’re meeting different practitioners that can really help them become more balanced and healthy on a physical and mental level.”
She believes that Pictou Lodge offers a perfect setting for the retreat with a view of the ocean and quality meals.
