STELLARTON, N.S. – A popular Celtic concert in aid of local churches returns to Pictou County for two engagements this spring.
Clan Thompson Pipe Band and Friends will perform at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Stellarton on Sunday, May 26 and at St. Paul’s United Church, Westville, on Sunday, June 2. Both concerts begin at 2:30 pm.
The afternoon of music will offer three sets by the pipe band, including selections with organist Sandra Johnson. There will also be Highland dancing, fiddling, solo piping, vocalists, ensemble performances and selections on trumpet, flute and organ.
This is the fourth year of Clan Thompson’s annual fundraising concerts, which in total has raised several thousand dollars for area churches and charities. “We as a band love to perform concerts and are grateful for the opportunity to support our church communities,” said Clan Thompson Pipe Sergeant Madelyn Evans-Langlois of Stellarton.
This year, the band will perform four fundraising concerts, including performances at St. James United Church, Antigonish on July 7 and St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Arisaig, on Aug.18.
Clan Thompson Pipe Band, based in Stellarton, was formed in 1984. The band won the Nova Scotia Pipe Band championship, Grade 4, in 2014 and is a former North American champion. The band now includes members ages 12 and up from Pictou County, Antigonish and Cape Breton. Pipe major is Scott Williams of Antigonish.
Admission for the Lourdes concert on May 26 is $10 ($5 for children and students), payable at the door. Information on tickets for the Westville concert on June 2 is available from St. Paul’s Church. All proceeds will stay with the host churches.
