PICTOU,N.S. – A Toney River fisherman has been fined $750 for not filling out his log book for two days.

Elmer Cameron, 56, of River John entered a guilty plea in Pictou provincial court Monday and was sentenced immediately afterwards to the fine. The offence took place May 15, when a fisheries officer requested to see his log book that records all lobster fishing activity. If the log books are not filled out properly, it is a violation of the owner’s fishing licence.

Cameron told the court he has been fishing 33 years and was one of the people who fought for log books to be become law. But on these two days in May, he was distracted by his boat’s engine troubles and forgot to write down in his book.

“It was an honest mistake,” he said.
