PICTOU COUNTY - A sinking fishing vessel was rescued off the coast of Pictou Island Friday afternoon and its crew are now safe on dry land.

Sailor Brandon Macdonald, whose vessel Slack Tide partook in the rescue, said it was “a good thing nobody’s hurt.”

“We were just on the other side of the island there and we got a phone call they were in a little bit of distress, we showed up,” said Macdonald.

The boat’s crew was taken onto the Slack Tide “a little bit wet,” according to Macdonald.

The stricken boat was towed back to Caribou Wharf where sailors pumped out the seawater before dragging it back on dry land with the help of an excavator and ropes.
