NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — JD Fortune is holding a benefit concert at Glasgow Square for Bill Munro Saturday, April 27 and is encouraging those who can to come out or make a donation on a Go Fund Me page he has set up.

“His son Robert is my dearest and closest friend and the Munro family have been an inspiration to me since I was a child,” Fortune wrote on a Go Fund Me page for the event.

Munro is recovering after having surgery to remove malignant tumours from his neck and under his tongue. He also had a near death experience after hemorrhaging after surgery, but was saved thanks to the staff at the Aberdeen Hospital.

Fortune describes Munro as one of the most genuine and real human beings you will ever meet.

“For the past 20+ years Bill Munro has raised over $1 million for various charities as a volunteer auctioneer, conducting auctions for churches, community groups, Ducks Unlimited and many more,” he stated.

The benefit will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is free, but donations will be collected. Fortune will be performing along with some other Pictou County talent.

“Please give from your heart and if you can make it to the benefit we'd love to see you,” Fortune said on the Go Fund Me page.

Rob Munro said the support of the community has been heartwarming and humbling for their family.

“The warmth and genuine expressions of the people from Pictou County, including former residents now living away, never ceases to amaze me,” he said. “Friends like JD jumping in to organize and host a benefit like he is doing on the 27th is beyond description. He has recruited other local talent to join him on stage as well and I am extremely grateful for all of the efforts these talented musicians are putting forth and hope a big crowd comes out to enjoy some great music.”
