PICTOU – A 27-year-old Stellarton man accused of breaking into a local grocery store in April will be going for a psychiatric assessment.

Bradley Jonathan Turnbull is charged with break and enter to commit the indictable offence of theft, theft of groceries not exceeding $5,000, mischief by damaging the main doors of a store and mischief by misleading police in its investigation. The charges were laid in relation to an alleged incident at the Sobeys retail store in Stellarton on April 10.

He made a brief court appearance Monday during which time his lawyer said Turnbull requested the assessment to determine his mental health fitness during the time of the alleged offence. Turnbull told his lawyers he was hearing voices at the time of the alleged offence.

The court agreed to the assessment and Turnbull will return to Pictou provincial court on June 4.
