PICTOU – A Pictou woman who has pleaded guilty to stealing money from a local swim team may be able to serve her sentence through restorative justice.

Doreen Lynn Walker, 36, was charged with theft over $5,000 in relation to money being stolen from the Pictou Mariners Swim Club between Oct. 9, 2013, and Sept. 13, 2016.

This week, a provincial court judge referred the charge to the local corrections office to develop a restorative justice program.

She will return to Pictou provincial court on May 11 for a status check on the program’s development.
