Betsy MacDonald of Antigonish is expected to be acclaimed as the NDP’s candidate for Central Nova for the next federal election.

The New Democratic Party in Central Nova will hold its nomination meeting and annual general meeting on Saturday, June 15, from 2-4 p.m. at the Plymouth Community Centre, 2340 East River East Side Rd.

A 34-year-old mother, community organizer and musician, MacDonald was born and raised in Antigonish. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 2007 and earned an MA from Brock University.

For the past fifteen years, she has led and worked on projects concerned with community development, gender-based violence, youth leadership, social enterprise, poverty reduction and food security. She is passionate about finding solutions to the climate emergency that create good green jobs and build sustainable, livable communities in Central Nova.
