The Pictou County Chamber of Commerce recently presented the Newcomer Welcome Centre at the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library with a unique booklet describing 151 activities, facilities and events that make Pictou County a unique and wonderful place to live and work.

“We have to start being more positive about Pictou County,” said Chamber President Blair Van Veld. “The booklet is impressive and will help newcomers become oriented in our communities. In fact, I believe it helps all of us appreciate just how much we have going for us. Very few rural areas of Nova Scotia can match this list.”

“This is a terrific introduction for those new to our community and will be a valuable addition to the Newcomer Welcome kits,” Eric Stackhouse, chief librarian at the Regional Library said. “The more people know about the community, the more likely they are to stay, whether they are from across the province or across the globe.”

In addition to the Newcomer Centre, Van Veld says the booklet will also be a resource for local businesses and organizations in the recruitment and retention of new employees and their families, and as an enhancement to our tourism offerings.

“It is a living document which will be online through the Chamber website and the library, and can be updated and expanded over time,” said Van Veld. “We hope local residents will have a look, advise us of any errors or omissions that they may find, and give us ideas of more great things we can add.”

The booklet can be accessed at http://pictouchamber.com/?p=3724

Anyone who would like a copy, can contact the Chamber office at 902-755-3463.
