A Prince Edward Island man has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking after being arrested by RCMP on a warrant.

Shawn Casey Smith, 33, of Charlottetown was charged earlier this week after Pictou District RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious man at a store in Central West River.

When RCMP arrived at the store, they soon realized that Smith was wanted on a warrant and as part of the arrest process, he and his vehicle were searched.   During the search, police say they found a large quantity of cocaine.  Police said Smith had been involved in a motor vehicle collision earlier on the same day in Colchester County.

The accused will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Nov. 5 in Pictou.
