Municipality of Pictou County Councillor Darla MacKeil wanted to have digital speed signs put up in her district, but it appears a rule will prevent that from happening.
The signs record data on the speed of traffic as well as provide a digital display of how fast drivers are going and she thought it would be a good way to slow people down. But it turns out Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal has restrictions on where the signs can be placed.
MacKeil said she was told that the signs, which were purchased by the municipality, can only be placed where there is a change in the posted speed.
That’s a problem for places like District 3, which MacKeil represents though, because all roads in the district are 80 km/hr zones.
She is hoping to address the matter with the Department of Transportation and infrastructure renewal at an upcoming meeting.
