LANSDOWNE, N.S. — The eagles have to eat.

Jim Crawford just wishes they’d find another place to find their food.

The caretaker at Lansdowne Outdoor Recreation Park (LORDA), in Lansdowne, Pictou County, says eagles have settled in for regular meals, with ponds well-stocked with rainbow trout providing easy access for good eating.

“There’s three of the eagles floating around here,” says Crawford. “They mostly come around when there’s nobody here. They seem to know.”

LORDA recently put the call out on social media, seeking ways to discourage the birds from eating all the trout.

When the park closed for the season last fall, the eagles swooped in and enjoyed some fine dining over the winter, Crawford added.

“They cleaned the main pond out and we had to put more (trout) in before we opened for the season.”

He said the ponds were re-stocked this spring with 3,500 rainbow trout.

Located in approximately 300 acres of what is mostly woodland, the park is an award-winning accessible recreation park, with free fishing for seniors and disabled persons. Some of the amenities at LORDA include picnic areas, camping, nature trails, an aquarium, a building that is used to hold events, an outdoor fireplace, a gazebo and a gift shop.
