Be afraid. Be very afraid. But in a fun way.

The Witches Den in Pictou is opening its doors once again for people who want to be frightened by ghosts and ghouls at 26 St. Stephen St. in Pictou. Hauntings are Oct. 25, 26 and 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.

The den is set up in the basement of the former priest’s home by a team of dedicated volunteers who spend weeks putting the den together. With finishing touches still in the works, the witches den already features skeletons, witches, Dracula and enough dark décor that promise a few scares.

Visitors can expect to see witches stirring their brew and unexpected surprises around every corner. For the faint of heart, daylight tours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

There is a chance to go through various rooms in the basement that will each have different features to frighten visitors.

This is the fourth year for the tour of the den with all proceeds going to the Star of the Sea Society which promotes fellowship in a less formal setting of the home. Each year, the number of visitors to the den increases and last year more than $3,000 was raised for the society.
