NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — A landmark building that has been part of the Pictou County landscape for almost 50 years, is now sporting a new look with enhancements to the exterior nearing completion.
A grey stain has been used to give the brown bricks of Glen Haven Manor, located on East River Road in New Glasgow, a more modern, refreshed look.
CEO Lisa M. Smith said numerous interior renovations have taken place over the past 10 years and Glen Haven Manor’s golden anniversary milestone in October was a catalyst to have the outside façade of the building keep pace with the many inside enhancements.
“This is our residents’ home and we continuously strive to make it up to date and well maintained. Last summer renovations included our tub rooms, new flooring, door wraps and renovations in resident care areas. We also enhanced our interior decor to create a very homey and warm feel in keeping with our Hygge, well-being approach,” said Smith. “Our residents take great interest in any such improvements invested into Glen Haven. They worked hard over the years to take care of and keep up their former homes and appreciate the importance of ensuring infrastructure is well maintained and up to date."
The façade improvements are also a meaningful way to mark the 50th anniversary on Oct. 27, which will be shared with the community during the 49th annual Festival of the Tartans Garden Party.
New signage for the front of the building and improvements to the front entrance are also part of the current renovations. There is also a new visiting area for residents’ families under construction.

“We want Glen Haven to be a vibrant place our residents are proud to call home in every way and for the outside of the facility to be in keeping with the outstanding quality care being provided on the inside,” Smith said.
