NEW GLASGOW – Glen Haven Manor officially opened an Internet Café this week at the long term-care facility in New Glasgow.

Lisa M. Smith, CEO; Miranda MacKenzie, Director of Crystal Waters & Silver Creek resident care areas; Janice Jorden, Employee Relations Specialist, and Zach MacGregor, IT Specialist are the team that initiated and implemented the project.

The Internet Café offers two lap tops and one desk top computer, a phone charger and comfortable furniture for staff use and will be open around the clock.

“We are very pleased to offer this new resource for our employees and encourage all to use the space for work research or professional development purposes and also for appropriate personal use during scheduled breaks,” says the CEO.

“It is a quiet and relaxing setting for staff to access computers and online information.”

Computers are also shared among staff at various work stations throughout Glen Haven. The addition of the Internet Café will enable those staff who are required to do research on a range of topics, from recreational and leisure activities, to recipes or other information pertinent to their work, such as online education, and to have an alternate location while other computers are in use for immediate health care needs.

“As the world continues to move forward with the role of technology in our homes and workplaces, Glen Haven is proud to keep pace. Our residents have enjoyed access to IPads for several years and many have embraced opportunities that have been provided to enhance their computer skills,” adds Smith. “This has been a great way to support our residents as they enjoy maintaining close contact with family and friends who live away.

“There is evolving tech savvy among both residents and staff. We recognize that easy access to technology, for both professional and personal use, is the new standard for any workplace.”
