ALMA, N.S. — Pictou County’s own gentleman of country classics, Don Haggart, will be the next musical guest at Monday Music in Alma.
Haggart has played the concert series each of the five years it has been hosting shows at Green Hill – Alma United Church.
Gwen MacLean, the organizer of the series says, “I was a wee bit apprehensive in approaching Don Haggart to be part of the first series as he is truly a legend of music in Pictou County and I wasn’t sure he’d take a chance on our little series. Not only did he say yes then, but he has said yes each year since.”
Each year the show has been just a little different. The first show was mostly country gospel, both Haggart’s own compositions as well as some of the best loved traditional gospel tunes. This year’s concert will have a few gospel tunes included but most of the tunes will be country classics. Haggart will also be presenting some new songs that will appear on an album that he is currently recording. And he is bringing some friends to share the stage – Andy Crossan and Doug Spencer of Colchester County will be playing with him so the audience can expect a rich full country sound.
The concert on July 22 marks the end of the first half of the summer concert series. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and punch will be served at intermission. Admission is $10 or what you can afford.
