Melmerby Beach reopens

The Merb has reopened for swimming.

Children participating in a Pictou County Recreation program spend time at Melmerby Beach on Friday, being careful to avoid the water. The beach remains closed to swimmers since high levels of bacteria were discovered on Thursday. SUEANN MUSICK -- THE NEWS

The beach closed to swimmers Thursday due to the presence of enterococci bacteria above the acceptable guidelines.

In a release issued Saturday night, the Department of Health and Wellness said the latest water sample results meet the guidelines.
