According to a recent street light analysis report carried out by public works, most of the streetlights in the Town of Stellarton meet recommended light levels. Council accepted the report as information.
According to town engineer Blaine Murray, who presented the survey, it was carried out to measure light densities throughout the town compared to Canadian standards.
“The report indicated a few dark areas throughout the streets, that didn’t meet requirements,” said Murray.
Murray said Stellarton streets that didn’t meet light level requirements include McGregor Avenue and Cedar Drive, among a number of others.
Coun. Simon Lawand said he was surprised that the crosswalk between South Foord Street and Weir Avenue didn’t make the list, noting that he and some people who have contacted him felt there isn’t enough light in that area at night.
Murray said the estimated cost associated with updating the town’s streetlights to ensure they meet requirements would be $23,000.
Council deferred talk on the costs of getting streetlights up to requirements to discussions on the town’s capital budget, at a later date.
