The Municipality of Pictou County wants to put local producers in touch with consumers.

In a release this week, the municipality said that it is starting a new project to help rural business owners thrive and to find a way for people who produce meat products, honey, herbs, dairy, fruits or vegetables, etc., from their small farms to have a way to connect with potential customers.

“If you are a small producer, you don’t have access to big marketing budgets,” said Warden Robert Parker. “We want to be able to provide a platform on our website that will list local producers where people can look for information on their businesses and product updates all in one location.”

He said if producers sell at local farmers markets, they could post this information onsite as well so consumers will know where to speak with producers or pick up products.

“This is about connecting people and we are offering to do that on our website, but we can’t do it without the support of producers,” said Parker. “We need them to see the value of this project and help us make it a success.”

Small producers interested in learning more can contact Sueann Musick, Communications Officer for the Municipality of Pictou County at [email protected] or by calling 902-485-2238.
