STELLARTON, N.S. — There’s something about collecting tools that Scott Ross just loves.
“It relaxes me,” he says. “It’s a comfort.”
And perhaps for a few it becomes an obsession.
“It’s like we’re hoarders,” Ross admits.
The Pictou County man is a member of the Atlantic Tool Collectors Association and will be one of the members with tools on display this Saturday at the Museum of Industry as dozens of tool collectors from across the province gather to meet and show off their collections.
Ross will be particularly proud to show off the child-size tools he has.
“I’ve been collecting these for over 20 years,” he said. “These mainly are what they call MARX. Marx is a brand name of tool.”
He’s even built a miniature tool box to carry the tools in.
He also keeps with the collection a number of miniature Stanley planes which, while they may appear child size, would have been used in actual woodworking for delicate work such as for violins.
“They’re not kids’ toys. They’re men’s toys.”
Ross hopes people will take advantage of having the tool show in the area and come over to the museum to check it out.
The event will be open to the public from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11 and is free to attend. The Museum of Industry is located at 147 North Foord St., in Stellarton.
