NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – New Glasgow will be wrapping up its winter carnival season with the sixth annual Chill Out event.
The event will be held at the New Glasgow Farmers’ Market on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, the fireworks previously scheduled for New Year’s Eve will be displayed at 7:30 p.m. that evening.
“There is fun and entertainment for all ages,” says New Glasgow Mayor Nancy Dicks, “including performances by local musicians sponsored by Z97.9, colouring, outdoor activities, the popular chili competition and this year fireworks.”
Organizers expressed hope that with this new date they may have snow to be able to enjoy outdoor activities, such as snowshoeing and the Mix 94.1 snowman building zone. In addition to these activities, the New Glasgow Farmers’ Winter Market will once again be open for the season.
The Tim Hortons/Wendy’s Chili Competition will have four groups of competitors: firefighters, media, local chefs, and once again this year home cooks can enter the competition. Brendan Ahern, who lost in last year’s chili competition, will seek redemption as he represents The News in the media division.
“Get ready for a flavour extravaganza,” said Ahern.
Those in attendance will also get to sample Wendy’s chili during the competition. If you have a prize-winning chili recipe, and want to join in the fun the town is inviting home cooks to enter their homemade chili into the competition. Enter your name for a chance to be one of the four home cooks selected for this year’s competition by e-mailing [email protected] or by calling 902-752-4800 before Friday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. The participants will be notified and announced by 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3.
Tasting starts at 11 a.m. with samples available of each competitor’s creation. The official people’s choice winners will be announced at 12:45 p.m.
Free Tim Horton’s hot chocolate and coffee will once again be available.
