NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — Picture this: an amateur photographer from New Glasgow is about to get her trip to Sable Island memorialized in a Canadian Geographic 2020 calendar.

“They contacted me in spring to say that they were interested,” said Sarah Norris, who took her trusty camera with her to Canada’s most popular sandbar back in 2014.

To get there, Norris had booked a charter flight with a group of strangers who wanted to see the place.

“You can’t just book a seat on a plane, you have to book the whole plane. So, a random group of us got together on Facebook chartered the flight.”

“I must have taken 700 photos in the eight hours that we were there,” she said, laughing. A lot of the photos Norris says are of the Island’s famous wild horses, seals and unique landscape.

Three of Norris’s photos will be featured in the calendar, and this is the second time that she has been featured there. Not bad for someone who only started shooting six years ago.

“I always liked it and there was an ad for an hour-long photography workshop at the library,” said Norris.

From there Norris has been involved with the Scotsburn-Northumberland Amateur Photography Society (SNAPS), and she shoots with a Cannon 70 D.
