NEW GLASGOW, N.S.
Police in New Glasgow continue to investigate a pedestrian fatality that took place in the town this week.
A 58-year-old man was killed Nov. 19 after being struck by a vehicle on East River Road in New Glasgow.
Just after 7:10 p.m. Monday, New Glasgow Regional Police responded to a 911 call and attended the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian.
“There’s a whole bunch of factors that come into play,” said police spokesman Const. Ken MacDonald, citing witness statements, visibility, weather conditions, the state of vehicles involved in a collision and other factors.
Police believe that the pedestrian was travelling across East River Road near the area of McColl Street, when the driver of the Ford SUV collided with him. The pedestrian was subsequently pronounced dead at the Aberdeen Hospital.
He was not using a crosswalk.
“This tragedy is a painful reminder of the importance of using a crosswalk,” said MacDonald.
The man's identity has still not been released. He is believed to have lived in the area for several years, but is not originally from Pictou County.
