NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – The Town of New Glasgow’s water reservoir will be getting a new liner and cover this summer.
During its June 5 council meeting, coucillors voted to award the project to Evoqua Water Technology. The tendered amount is $774,300 and was approved in the water utility capital budget. Federal funding will also contribute to this project.
The cover and liner of the reservoir, located on Moutain Road in New Glasgow, will be made of polypropylene, said New Glasgow engineer Earl MacKenzie. The last cover was installed in 1993 and has reached the end of its life cycle.
Now that the tender has been awarded, Evoqua can begin construction of the liner. Actual installation is expected to take between two and three weeks, MacKenzie said. The reservoir will be disconnected from the system during this time. MacKenzie said they hope to prevent any interruptions to customers and he will have public works employees watching closely for any issues with the water pressure as a result of the work.
“Crews are going to be working diligently to minimize disruptions,” he said.
