PICTOU – County council will continue to get its technology needs serviced by the Town of New Glasgow.

Coun. Peter Boyles said he is still concerned that if his county-owned iPad needs to be repaired, it goes to New Glasgow’s tech staff, but others around the council table didn’t see it as an issue.

Coun. Larry Turner said where equipment is fixed is a staff issue and not one for councillors to be concerned about while Coun. Don Butler said he recently used the services of New Glasgow and was pleased with the response.

The Town of New Glasgow also acts as the IT department for Trenton, Shared Services as well as the Wellness Centre.

“They deal with a lot of things and I think emails from councillors is the least of their concerns,” said Coun. Andy Thompson.

Boyles said he is not accusing New Glasgow staff of doing anything wrong, but he wanted county staff to look into the cost of doing its own IT servicing so it could be considered an option in the future.

“I talked to other people and they seem to be of the same opinion,” he said.

County staff reminded councillors that the iPads are owned by the municipality and if a Freedom of Information request is filed anything on the iPad is subject to review.
