The Pictou County Fuel Fund has resumed operations for this season, and has also begun its annual fundraising campaign.
“The PCFF board would like to thank local businesses, individuals, schools, municipalities, service groups and any other organizations who donated to support the 2017-18 heating season,” said chairperson Roseanne MacGregor. “Because of the generous support during the fundraising campaign, 212 families were assisted in staying warm last winter.”
The Fuel Fund provides oil, wood, wood pellets or propane to families in urgent need during the colder months of the year. Intended for those who are dangerously close to running out of fuel to heat their home and who have no financial means to pay for fuel, eligible families may use this support once per heating season.
“While we realize there are many charitable organizations that serve the residents in Pictou County, we hope that people will continue to consider the Fuel Fund as a viable option to their giving,” said MacGregor.
Contributing to the PCFF has also been made easier and more convenient through the addition of a “Make a Difference: Donate” link on the website: www.pictoucountyfuelfund.ca.
PCFF was established by the Pictou County Council of Churches, with fuel first dispensed during the 2007-2008 season. The mission of the Fuel Fund is to ensure “No child should go cold in Pictou County.”
Assistance from the Fuel Fund began on Nov. 15, and will continue until March 31.
The Pictou County Municipalities Crime Prevention Association processes requests and arranges for distribution of fuel to those in need on behalf of the Pictou County Fuel Fund.
