CARIBOU, N.S. –
Pictou District RCMP have arrested a 28-year-old man for being impaired by alcohol while operating a fishing boat.
The arrest was the result of an anonymous tip made to police about the operator.
At approximately 9 a.m. on June 15, Pictou District RCMP and Department of Fisheries and Oceans officers responded to the complaint near the Caribou ferry wharf in Pictou County. Police and DFO arrived on scene and located the vessel and operator.
“During the arrest of the accused, he resisted and assaulted a DFO officer,” RCMP said in a statement.
The accused was taken to the Pictou detachment where he provided breath samples, and was released later that day.
The fishing boat operator, who is from Pictou County, is facing charges of impaired operation of a conveyance, operating a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg per cent, assaulting a peace officer and obstruction.
He is scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court on Aug. 6.
