The contest is open to students in grade 10, 11 or 12.
According to the rules outlined by the Roots Society, the essay must be about a notable event or person of Pictou County. The essay must be original with sources and quotations documented.
It should be at least four pages double spaced, but no longer than eight pages. Pictures pertaining to the topic may be included.
Entries will be accepted until the deadline on May 12, 2017. All submissions become the property of The Pictou County Roots Society.

Copies of Clyde Macdonald's books have been donated by the Roots Society to the library with the intent of helping youth learn about local history.
