NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — Jessica Smith, the executive director of the Pictou County United Way has passed away after a battle with cancer.
The news was shared on Facebook through the Pictou County Supports Jessica Smith Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 4.
The post read: “It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we share the sad news of Jessica's passing. Details on any arrangements will be announced later.
Fly high our dear friend and soar....”
Smith was well known in Pictou County for her work with The United Way. In April a fundraiser and blood drive was held in her honour. At that time Margie Grant-Walsh, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pictou County talked about Smith’s influence.
“Jessica has been the glue among many local agencies in our community,” she said at the time. “She has always gone above and beyond her role to ensure Pictou County has the resources they need to serve our clients.”
