Coun. Malcolm Houser said it would be nice for the town to come up with a plan to make a new business owner feel welcome. He said the gesture could be as simple as having a bouquet of flowers sent to them to let them know their business is appreciated.

Council agreed to bring the matter back in two weeks’ time for discussion during its monthly meeting.

On May 9, 1992 at 5:20 a.m., the Westray mine in Plymouth exploded, killing 26 miners. May 9 marked the thirty-second anniversary of the disaster. Wreaths were laid at the foot of the monument to remember the lives of the miners who died early that morning. In the inquiry following the disaster, significant changes were made in the form of more robust regulations and safety requirements.  Justice K. Peter Richard led a public inquiry into the disaster, commenting on the camaraderie felt by miners.
