Scotsburn student wins prize for Pictou County essay contest

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — The Pictou County Roots Society hosts an annual essay contest for students in grades 10, 11 and 12 who are enrolled in a Pictou County high school.

The winner receives the Clyde F. Macdonald annual cultural prize of $500. On behalf of the society, Lloyd Tattrie recently presented the 2019 essay winner prize to Justin MacLennan of Scotsburn, Pictou County. MacLennan's topic was Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, The Foundation of Schools in the West Pictou Region of Pictou County. MacLennan, 17, is a June 2019 graduate of Northumberland Regional High School and this summer is a member of the Nova Scotia Keltics rugby team. Next month, MacLennan will enter St. FX University for enrollment in the Bachelor of Arts program, Sports Management.
