NEW GLASGOW –
Bigger Brighter Lights is back for another shot at the big stage.
The Pictou County pop-punk band, who hadn’t played live locally in five years before a show at the New Glasgow venue The Spot in late September, released a new single on Oct. 15 (‘Leaving’), in advance of the release of their as-yet-untitled album, which they plan on putting out early next year.
It would be their second album, after an EP they had in 2012 (Clean Up That Mess).
“We want to be known as a band from Pictou County,” says lead vocalist/guitarist Nate Fleming.
“We are a small-town band, but we have a big-town sound.”
With the exception of bass player Steve Hamm, all are from Pictou County: Fleming, drummer Anto Pellrine and lead guitarist Brandon Richardson.
According to Fleming, the band is currently in discussions with publicity firms in Los Angeles, and they hope to be part of the Riverfront Jubilee lineup next summer.
“The video for ‘Leaving’ features a couple of well-known spots in Pictou County: Melmerby Beach and the grated walkway under the George Street bridge in New Glasgow.
“It was important to us those shots got in the video. We really wanted to showcase our county,” Fleming said. “We’re Pictou County boys so we wanted to showcase some of the hotspots in Pictou County.”
