Stabbing, fraud and fire: Pictou County District RCMP monthly report for April

The Southeast District RCMP is investigating following an off-road vehicle crash in Memramcook that left one man dead and another injured.

During the month of April, Pictou County RCMP responded to 471 occurrences. During the month, RCMP also issued 72 violation tickets, 71 written warnings and were involved in 21 community policing activities. 
Investigations of note include the following:

Online Fraud
On April 5, RCMP responded to a complaint of an online fraud. The complainant advised that he had purchased an item on Kijiji and prior to receiving it, had been requested by the seller to send partial payment, which he did. He then attempted to pick up the item and discovered the address given by the seller was fictional and all further correspondence sent to the seller was ignored. This complaint is still under investigation and police are reminding everyone to be wary of private ads which request payments prior to products being received.  

Mischief to vehicle
On April 7, RCMP received a complaint of mischief to a vehicle in Pictou County. The vehicle owner advised that he had noticed that the rear seat of his vehicle had been badly burned by unknown culprits.  The vehicle owner had left the vehicle unlocked and a window had also been left open, prior to the damage occurring to the vehicle.  Police are reminding all residents to please ensure their vehicles are secured when unoccupied. 

Vehicle fire
On April 8, RCMP and the Pictou Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in Pictou. Upon arrival, a truck was completely engulfed in flames. Nobody was injured as a result of this fire, which is still under investigation by police and the fire department. Anyone with any information about this vehicle fire is asked to contact the Pictou County District RCMP. 

Stabbing
On April 9, RCMP in Pictou County and Cheticamp began an investigation into a possible stabbing which had occurred a few days earlier in Pictou County. As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old male from Pictou County was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and uttering threats. This incident remains under investigation. 

Stolen vehicle
On April 20, RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle in Seafoam. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been unlocked and the keys had been left in the vehicle prior to the theft. The vehicle was later recovered in an isolated area and had been burnt and abandoned. If anyone has any information about this incident, contact Pictou County District RCMP.  Police would also like to again remind everyone to please secure your unoccupied vehicles.  

Impaired by drug
On April 25, police observed a vehicle driving erratically in Pictou County. The vehicle was pulled over and the 34-year-old female driver from Pictou County showed signs of impairment by drug. Further investigation at the scene resulted in the driver being arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug. She will appear in Pictou Provincial court in September. 
 
Impaired driver
On April 27, RCMP observed a vehicle driver who appeared to be impaired while behind the wheel in Pictou. Investigation at the scene resulted in the 46-year-old male driver from New Brunswick being arrested. He faces charges of Impaired Care and Control of a motor vehicle and appears in Pictou Provincial court later in May.
