PICTOU – The newly-relocated Subway in Pictou is up and running, just across the street from its former home.

Situated at the corner of Veteran’s Drive and Weaver Road and former home of KFC and, most recently, a car sales lot, the Subway opened on Nov. 7.

Prior to that, it had been located in the strip mall that is owned by Crombie Properties, Ltd.

“We’d been there 20 years, and always looked at the possibility of going to a free-standing store with a drive-through,” said Subway restaurant owner/operator Greg Burrows.

“Over the years, the store has built up enough to support that model.”

Work started on the project in early August and while the new outlet has virtually the same seating – room for slightly more than 30 people – the key was the ability to add that drive-through, Burrows said.

He said the layout of the new store gives off the appearance of being larger than the old location, even though it has room for just a handful more sit-down customers.
